Creative Practice
We center our artistic practice on creatively reusing discarded materials, waste, and unwanted items, transforming them into evocative works of art. These are collected by friends and neighbors, each doing their small part to reduce waste in their own lives.
The process of transformation is a metaphor for our participants, who frequently feel discarded and disconnected from their humanity and need rebirth.
Our Raw Materials
Plastic shopping bags are carefully folded, and each part is cut and put aside. They turn into plastic yarn; the handles are tied into a grid of plastic crochet. Nothing is wasted, and even the smaller trim pieces are collected and glued together to become a separate art piece. In the end, they all become a variety of art pieces, each one with its specific voice.
Mesh and nets from produce turn into the main media for creating installations and various art pieces. They are glued together, cut, connected, ironed, and sewn.
Tea bags are cleaned and transformed into small and large collages. We also create greeting cards designed by some of our participants.
Aluminum foil is crafted into artworks, collages, and cards.
Milk cartons from various beverages became our base for collages, cards, and other works. We peel them, stripping the plastic, and use the carton as paper.
