Sprouting from the fertile soil of the Collaborative Seed Grant generously provided by City Seminary through our partner Storefront Church, the Exhibition pays homage to our benefactors while capturing the essence of cooperation, weaving together a tapestry of shared gifts, talents, and resources.

Each participant brings their skills to their own unique piece in the "Gifts" series. This is a vibrant collection of intricately woven plastic geometries, inspired by a “gift” each individual can bring to the collective.

The piece above comes from the adept hands of one of our participants, who is an embroidery enthusiast; a plastic mesh once cradling onions is transformed into a canvas of delicate stitchwork.
Likewise, remnants of plastic bulb packaging find new life under the deft needle of another participant, whose use of vibrant hues of yellow adds depth to the visual narrative of revival.

Participant Collaborations
The collection of images displayed in the photographs belongs to a participant who is a skilled photographer, lending his expertise to translate the essence of this neighborhood. These photographs, imbued with a sense of place, find new expression as they are reimagined through the drawings of another fellow participant, transcending their original form to become drawings of landscapes.

“Living in New York City, it can be quite easy to feel lost in the moment with the busy rush and fast-paced movement all around. Sometimes, one can even feel lost for direction when everything else seems chaotic and overwhelming.
The following photos represent my appreciation for time and place amid the noise around me. I captured these images as a simple reminder to be present and look up once in a while.”

“In the first photo, with the buildings of Hudson Yards in the background, my attention immediately went to the intersecting One Way signs as a kind of metaphor for life and the many ways we go about our days. To simply look up, decide which direction to go in, and continue to move forward.”

“For my second photo, I chose a snapshot from Little Island, a man-made oasis built on the Hudson River. A quick venture into this park easily sweeps us up, far enough from the commotion of the city streets to enjoy views of the Empire State Building, all the while tucked away and surrounded by nature, as if it really were a concrete jungle after all.”
