Caring for people and
the Earth through art
Who we are
Gleaning Project is a non-profit environmental art initiative that connects artists and underresourced individuals through collaborative artmaking. We work from an ethos of care for people and the Earth.
About Us
Our studio is a third place where participants rebuild their sense of self through meaningful artistic work, build trust within a safe community, and restore dignity by being valued as creators.

Why Gleaning?
Gleaning means gathering leftover crops after the hired harvesters have passed through the fields. It is a slow process in which people on the margins collect and take home whatever they can find.
The word encompasses a refusal of extractive systems that leave the earth bare, a desire to help those who are overlooked, and the thrifty mindset that comes from making the most of every last bit of a precious resource. All these concepts are at the heart of what we do.
Our Mission
We are building an ethos of care by connecting artists and under-resourced individuals through art. We bridge artists and disenfranchised individuals through collaborative artmaking. Our work is anchored in three core pillars:
Our participants work with their hands, collaboratively transforming discarded materials into beautiful handcrafted works of art. The materials themselves are an intentional choice, making the metaphor of transformation visible and concrete. The making is as important as the result. The slow, patient, dignified work centers all we do.
Art: the slow craft of reclamation
We provide a safe, reliable space where people from different walks of life come together, show up for each other, and find belonging. The Gleaning Project functions as a third place, working alongside emergency services and clinical care. In the studio, individuals navigating hardship come together to rebuild their sense of self through meaningful artistic work.
Community
The materials we use are the things most people discard daily, filling landfills with a variety of harmful plastics. We give new life to plastic bags, tea bags, produce nets, and so on. This choice of materials embodies our ethos of care for people and our planet.
